Eyebrow Tattoo Removal, Kkeut Oriental Medicine Clinic's Approach

1. Diagnosis Based on Pigment Analysis

Beyond just the visible color, we meticulously analyze the pigment components, its location within the skin, and its concentration.

2. Mandatory Test Shot Implementation

To prevent pigment discoloration, we perform a test shot before treatment to pre-confirm the pigment's reaction.

3. Customized Design for Each Session

We closely observe the reactions after each treatment, and carefully adjust subsequent treatment plans.

4. Customized Irradiation by Pigment Depth

We select the appropriate laser wavelength according to the pigment's penetration depth, and approach the treatment with a multi-layered technique.

Eyebrow Tattoo Removal, Features of Kkeut Oriental Medicine Clinic

1. Precise Diagnosis Through Pigment Analysis

Treatments that only consider the visible color may not yield satisfactory results or could lead to unexpected situations.

We first analyze the specific components of the pigment (e.g., iron oxide, carbon, complex inks, etc.). This allows us to formulate a comprehensive diagnostic plan that considers each pigment's wavelength reactivity, location within the skin, and density.

The laser wavelength and energy to be applied vary depending on the pigment's penetration depth into the skin and its particle size. Therefore, we believe that delicate analytical skills, based on extensive clinical experience, are crucial.

2. Test Shot System for Discoloration Prevention

Pigments from the iron oxide family, in particular, have the potential for a 'reverse reaction,' where they turn black upon laser irradiation.

We mandatory perform a test shot for all individuals before treatment, to pre-confirm the pigment's reaction and determine the appropriate energy and wavelength accordingly.

If there is a concern about discoloration, we gradually adjust the intensity and proceed with the treatment carefully.

3. Session-by-Session Progress Tracking and Customized Design

Eyebrow tattoo removal is different from treatments that merely repeat a fixed number of sessions.

We meticulously monitor the pigment's reaction in each session, and formulate a new treatment plan accordingly for the next session.

For instance, if pigment discoloration occurs in the first treatment, a different wavelength must be considered for subsequent sessions. Additionally, the treatment interval may also be adjusted based on individual skin reactions or pigment absorption rates.

4. Customized Approach by Pigment Depth, Precise Multi-layered Design

Eyebrow tattoo pigment is primarily located in the upper dermis, but its penetration depth and distribution pattern can vary among individuals. We meticulously consider these pigment depths to adjust the laser irradiation depth. We utilize a multi-layered design approach, applying a 532nm wavelength for shallow epidermal pigments and a 1064nm wavelength for deep dermal pigments.

Instead of treating with a uniform setting, we perform irradiation individually based on the precise location of the pigment.

Principle of Eyebrow Tattoo Removal

Eyebrow tattoo removal is based on the medical principle known as 'Selective Photothermolysis'.

What is Selective Photothermolysis?

The laser's light energy is selectively absorbed only by specific pigment particles,

and the absorbed energy converts into heat, expanding the pigment particles to a high temperature and breaking them down.

This process is designed to selectively remove only the pigment while minimizing damage to surrounding normal tissues.

When applying this principle, the laser wavelength is chosen differently according to the characteristics of the pigment.

The 1064nm wavelength penetrates deep into the dermal layer of the skin and is primarily used for removing black or brown pigments.

In contrast, the 532nm wavelength is effective for lighter pigments such as red and orange, mainly in the epidermal layer.

However, wavelength alone is not the only important factor. The duration of the laser pulse is also a critical element.

For eyebrow tattoo removal, extremely short pulses, even shorter than nanoseconds, are applied. This is to precisely deliver powerful energy exclusively to the pigment particles in a brief moment.

By concentrating energy within a short time, the spread of heat to surrounding tissues can be minimized. As a result, only the pigment particles locally receive high pressure and temperature, causing them to shatter into tiny fragments or vaporize.

Subsequently, the finely broken-down pigment particles are absorbed by the body's macrophages, and gradually expelled from the body via the lymphatic system.

Pigment expulsion typically begins with an initial lymphatic reaction anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks after treatment. The broken-down pigment particles are transported to lymph nodes and undergo processing in organs such as the liver and spleen.

Even after this, continuous immune responses and lymphatic circulation occur over several weeks to months, gradually diminishing the remaining pigment particles.

Tattoo removal does not involve burning the pigment. Instead, it is a process that finely breaks down the pigment within the skin, helping the body naturally absorb and excrete it.

Shorter pulse durations allow for finer and more even breakdown of pigment particles. These smaller particles can be more easily processed by our body's immune system, which helps to enhance the efficiency and safety of the procedure.

Eyebrow Tattoo Removal Procedure Steps

STEP 1. Precise Pigment Diagnosis

We comprehensively analyze the type of tattoo pigment, its location within the skin, concentration, and the likelihood of oxidation.

STEP 2. Anesthetic Ointment Application

We apply a topical anesthetic cream to the treatment area to reduce discomfort.

STEP 3. Test Shot and Laser Treatment

We first perform a test shot to check the pigment's reaction. Then, we select a wavelength (1064nm/532nm) suitable for the patient's skin condition and pigment to apply the laser, and the intensity can be adjusted based on the reactions observed during the procedure.

STEP 4. Cold Compress and Skin Soothing

To alleviate any white reaction or redness that may appear after the procedure, we soothe the skin using a regenerative ointment and Jaungo (a traditional Korean soothing balm).

STEP 5. Progress Documentation and Treatment Plan

Based on the reactions from previous treatments, we assess progress and determine the direction for the next procedure.

Pain and Aftercare for Eyebrow Tattoo Removal

  • As anesthesia is administered, most patients can undergo the procedure with only a mild stinging sensation.
  • The temporary whitening reaction or redness of the skin that appears immediately after the procedure usually subsides within a few hours.
  • Occasionally, light scabs or redness may be visible, but these generally resolve within 2-3 days.

Recommended Treatment Interval

  • Considering skin recovery and pigment expulsion, an interval of about 4 to 6 weeks is recommended. A minimum interval of 4 weeks is necessary.
  • Depending on the pigment's density and individual skin characteristics, 3 to 5 or more treatment sessions may be required.
  • If the treatment interval is too short, it can strain the skin or lead to discoloration. Ensuring sufficient time for pigment expulsion can lead to more stable results.

We Recommend This Procedure For

  • Individuals with semi-permanent eyebrow tattoos whose color has changed over time (e.g., grey, red, blue, etc.).
  • Those considering removal due to dissatisfaction with their eyebrow tattoo design or asymmetry.
  • Those who need to clear existing tattoo pigment for a new eyebrow procedure.
  • Those who wish to restore their natural appearance.
  • Those who received treatment elsewhere but were not satisfied with the results.

Our Director's Philosophy

Eyebrow tattoo removal means more than just applying a laser.

Diagnosis must meticulously consider all aspects: the pigment's location within the skin, penetration depth, particle size, composition, and the potential for future discoloration.

Especially in cases where pigments like iron oxide-based types can exhibit unpredictable reactions, a simple laser application method has limitations. Precise diagnosis based on extensive clinical experience and delicate setting adjustments are extremely important.

Rather than choosing a place that simply uses equipment according to a fixed protocol, it is better to choose one that analyzes pigment components in advance and conducts sufficient reactivity tests.

Tattoo removal is a procedure where the practitioner's skill and judgment are as crucial as the equipment's performance itself.

Only when the practitioner's clinical experience, delicate touch, and accurate judgment are combined can safe and satisfactory results be achieved.

As the director, our medical team takes no one's eyebrow pigment lightly.

We believe that precise analysis leads to predictable results, so we personally oversee every step, from the diagnosis process to the post-treatment recovery phase, and take all necessary measures.

We always do our best to provide treatment that maximizes patient satisfaction.

Post-Procedure Instructions

  • Please avoid washing your face for at least 6 hours after the procedure to prevent water from touching the treated area. (Purpose: to reduce irritation)
  • Strictly avoid sun exposure to the treated area, and when going outside, we recommend carefully applying sunscreen and wearing a hat or sunglasses.
  • It is best to allow scabs formed on the treated area to fall off naturally over time. Be careful not to forcefully remove them.
  • It is recommended to consistently apply regenerative cream to aid skin recovery. This can help with skin soothing and the regeneration process.
  • For about 1 week after the procedure, it is advisable to avoid saunas, jjimjilbangs (Korean bathhouses), and strenuous exercise. Avoiding these is beneficial for recovery as they can irritate the skin.
  • To prevent infection or irritation in the treated area, it is advisable not to use eyebrow cosmetics (such as pencils, tattoo pens) for at least 1 week. Maintaining good hygiene is crucial.
